Mount Stuart, Isle of Bute, Scotland, PA20 9LR
Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute is one of Scotland’s most striking Neo-Gothic country houses, built in the late 19th century for the Marquesses of Bute. Set within around 300 acres of landscaped grounds, including rare plant collections, woodland walks and a Victorian pinetum, it is a wonderful day out for visitors interested in architecture, contemporary visual art (CVA) and horticulture.
The Courtyard Café, located within the main visitor area, offers a relaxed dining space serving freshly prepared soups, sandwiches, scones and baked goods, often using local and seasonal produce from Mount Stuart and nearby island suppliers. There is both indoor and outdoor seating in the courtyard, making it a pleasant stop during a visit to the house and gardens.
